IMPORTANT - you are not required to share any personal information to participate in this discussion board. We encourage you to remain anonymous and use a pseudonym. Any information you do post on this idea wall will become publicly viewable, subject to our moderation policy.
The law protects your personal information, including under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act).
The Social Deck and the Department of Social Services, collects personal information about people for a range of purposes. You find out more about how we handle private information in the Department of Social Services Privacy Policy and The Social Deck Privacy Policy.
We want you to read this privacy collection notice because the Privacy Act says we must make you sure you know how we collect and use your information.
What is the purpose of the collection?
The Australian and State and Territory Government wants the disability community to tell us what they think about Foundational Supports. This will help us design and deliver Foundational Supports and a Foundational Supports Strategy.
The Department of Social Services have contracted The Social Deck to help with this project. The Department and the Social Deck will use the information you give us to develop Foundational Supports.
What is ‘personal information’ and ‘sensitive information’?
Personal information is information or an opinion about an identified person or an person who could be identifiable.
Sensitive information is a part of your personal information. It includes information or an opinion about your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs or affiliations, philosophical beliefs, membership of associations or unions, sexual orientation or practices, criminal record, or health, genetic or biometric information.
What we collect
You can choose to take part in online engagements with a pseudonym (a fake name). If you do choose to provide any personal information, we will leave out information that can identify you, such as names, so we keep your information private when we analyse it and report to the Department.
When you take part in the discussion board, The Social Deck may collect a range of information, if you choose to share it:
- Your first and last name if you choose not to use a pseudonym
- Your personal experiences if you choose to share them.
You shouldn’t give us information about other people unless they have agreed. You can share their information with us if you are allowed. For example, if you are a parent or guardian to a child or the primary carer of a person who can’t give consent.
How we collect and use your personal information
The Social Deck and the Department will collect your personal information to help develop Foundational Supports.
The Social Deck will collect your personal information to:
- analyse the information you give us and the results of community consultations.
- The information collected by The Social Deck during the consultation will be de-identified..
If you choose to take part in face to face or online consultation events, The Social Deck will collect your personal information by:
- downloading and analysing the information and ideas you provide on this ideas wall
- any personal information will be removed prior to providing it to the Department in reports.
The Department will use your information to help develop Foundational Supports. The Department will also analyse any de-identified and aggregated personal information collected by The Social Deck to inform the development of Foundational Supports.
Who we show your personal information to
We may show your personal information to the following people, organisations or third parties:
- The Social Deck
- The Department of Social Services
- Other people or organisations, where the law allows it.
All entities contract by the Department are subject to strict confidentiality, privacy and security obligations.
Managing preferences
You can choose to use a pseudonym (a fake name) when you take part in consultations. If you are worried about sharing your personal information, you can contact foundationalsupports@thesocialdeck.com and talk about other consultation options.
Storage of your personal information
We store and dispose of your information under the Australian Government records management rules. This includes the Archives Act 1983, agency-specific records authorities and general records authorities. It makes sure the Department holds your personal information securely.
The Department stores all personal information collected on Services Australia’s cloud storage with servers that are in Australia. Services Australia and the Department has control over any personal information held on our cloud. We handle this information under the Australian Privacy Principles.
We handle any information shown to third parties under the Privacy Act. We store the information under agreed security protocols.
